Things to do before packing a suitcase for a 10 day trip
Packing is something where almost all adults fail. Packing smart and not more will help one avoid not only excessive airline fees but will help getting past the security faster and risking losing a single bag won’t be a headache. Obviously a 10 day trip calls for a lot of clothes and items to be packed but most of us end up packing things that are not used at all. So here are some simple items and things to do before packing a suitcase for a 10 day trip:
- Checking the Weather
This is a huge and major step which should be done before visiting a place and starting to pack the luggage. It obviously doesn’t mean being glued to the screen checking the weather forecast every one hour but glancing at a few weather forecasts will help to pack for any kind of getaway. Depending on the weather one can pack the essential things. So if it’s a rainy place one plans to visit then an umbrella or a raincoat is a must. If it’s summer and windy then sunglasses, hat and sunscreen are important things. Winter is the tricky weather. The hack is to choose a few sweaters, coats or overalls which will go with every outfit rather than packing five different kinds of warm clothes to go with a specific outfit.
- Planning out events
There are a bunch of things one can do while on a vacation. For example, visiting relatives, visiting a beach, hiking require all different kinds of clothing. So the smart way to reduce the excess baggage is to first plan out the destination events or places and then packing the clothes according to the place – nothing extra! Trips to some places require a lot of walking around to explore the places, so packing one comfortable pair of shoes is better than putting in two heels and two flats. Not only are they uncomfortable but also will take up a lot of space.
- Creating a packing list
This point will get a lot of nods from people who are into making lists! Sure, one can pack everything the day before one leaves but making a list effectively reduces the extra things one might end up packing in hurry. There are things that pops in head in the middle of the day. So adding it immediately to the list or packing it in that very moment reduces a lot of hectic packing of the last day hurry.
- Follow the “Bundle, roll, shove, layer” rule
One can fit 40 items in a single bag or in two bags. It depends entirely on the way of packing. Rather than throwing in the items, following a step by step rule saves a hell lot of space.
First step is to Bundle: Bundling will reduce wrinkles and can help organise similar items in form of a stack. Second step is to Roll: Rolling the layered bundle into a tube. It saves space and reduces creasing. Third step is to Stuff: The hollow space inside shoes can be used in a lot of ways most of us are unaware of. Stuffing shoes with inner wears and socks keeps everything intact and tidy. Fourth step is to layer: Most suitcases have wheels and an extendable handle. These contribute to an uneven packing space. So embracing those awkward areas by first layering pants and shoes in the bottom between the handle slots will help a lot, otherwise the tiny but helpful spaces get wasted.
- Investing in travel-sized toiletries, bottles and towels
Forget the big shampoo bottle and moisturizer at home. Investing in travel-sized bottles that won’t leak will be a huge saviour.
- Wearing one’s heaviest shoes, sweater and jacket
Wearing it while traveling is the smartest job one can do because then one won’t have to load it in the suitcase and saves a lot of space.
